THE DRAUGHTSMAN'S CONTRACT

This movie is about a draughtsman who is hired to draw the house and garden (Groombridge Place) of the Herbert family, but get drawn into a conspiracy of murder and greed. The film produces a fantastic picture of the gardening philosophy in the 17th century, but in the end also gives a hint of what is going to be thought afterwards, in the beginning og the 18th century. The movie is full of beautiful scenes, and is full of art references as Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Vermeer.

Azuma Makoto is a japanese flower-artist working with flowers, plants and nature in totally new ways. Under you see some pictures from some of his exhibitions. The bonsai-tree is something he is working with a lot. Imagine these superold trees, how we treat them in our daily life! This piece of nature that is maybe 100 years old is sold on IKEA and you buy it without any knowledge just to see it die 20 days later..

He also takes photos and works with flower-graphics. Very cool!

STEIN RØNNING

Stein Rønning is a norwegian artist working with sculpture and photography. His work draw parallels to the poetism of architecture and is fascinating in its quiet and timeless form. Some of the series consists of the same wooden blocks in almost the same position, only with a few adjustments, in where the accuracy is very important for the works.

TRANSPORT IN BEIJING

2 weeks ago, me and some of my classmates went to Beijing on a schooltrip arranged by the newly established portfolio-website and furniture brand TheCreator.Me. They had made a very cool program for us, giving us the perspectives we needed to look at China and Beijing with new eyes, and imagine how the future could look like.

We also visited Beijing Design week that was happening at the same time. An event looking very much like European design events, but with interesting contents like the NO+CH festival. Which is a merging of Nordic and Chinese designers and artists doing a one-week workshop together. You can see some of the stuff at Dezeens very nice resumé of it. Here you also find many different parts of the festival, f.ex. the new 751 design district with pavillions from the Netherlands, Germany and China. Very cool place.

I got a hang up in one thing, though, transport vehicles. They are everywhere in Beijing and I find them interesting precisely because they are so common and so manual, and therefore also very sustainable. Transporting goods and humans from one place to another is essential in human civilization, but the ways we have started to do this has had quite harmful concequences. As 10 000 new cars emerges in Beijing only every month, there is pretty clear how big the problem is and will be. And because of this it made me so happy to see people cycling around on their slow and well-used bi- and tri-cycles with their huge loads of either food, goods, people or just their own personal stuff, in many cases their whole life is back there! Suddenly you see a guy with his whole shoerepair workshop at the back of his cycle, and I also saw a guy with his personal library cruising around. Some of the vehicles are motorized, but many are still manual, and it is really an essential part of Chinese culture to get around on these.

So, I will present for you my poster and some of my favourite images. I hope you enjoy!

We were in Stockholm last weekend, and there we went to Fotografiska museet, the national photomuseum of Sweden. The headliner was Nick Brandt, a photographer taking pictures of animals in Africa. He deals with a scenario that soon they will have few chances to live due to environmental and sustainable changes in the world, where Africa is very much in the danger zone. Originally he's a filmmaker, but while recording the video of Michael Jacksons Earth Song in 1995 he fell in love with the animals and found his main goal in life: to photograph his love for them and spread that love all over the world. His way of capturing the daily life of the animals is amazing, and the pictures has so much story in them. He certainly manages to get a message through to his audience, and the impact these images had on me was huge.. Very inspiring in many ways.

Paola Antonelli is the curator of the design and architecture department at MOMA, and she has done some great exhibitions there. I really think she is spot on in her observations and visions, as well as being a very inspiring person and a great speaker. The first video from TED.com is a preview she presented of an exhibition on MOMA I have been so lucky to have seen myself, the Design and the Elastic Mind-exhibition from 2008. The second video is also from TED.com, where she talks about her passion of design and objects and how she feels it is going to change the world.

"I always envisioned them (designers) to become the intellectuals of the future. I find it really funny, you know, that the french, whenever they discuss the price of gas og the cheese-war with Italy, they always turn to a philosopher. The philosophers are the cultural generators in France. I want designers to be the cultural generators pretty much all over the world, and some of them really can. And no matter what, they should become fundamental bricks in whatever kind of policy making effort, and that is more and more what is happening. But I see designers designing not any more objects, or in some cases yes, but also scenarios that are based on objects that will help people understand the consequences of their choices."

"I am interested in creating digital representations of skin marks, scars and other traces left due to physical interactions. My intention is not create realistic images of skin, but rather images that would reflect the nature and force of such interaction; sometimes it would be intense and harsh and other times, it would be soft and slow, almost absent, like that caused by merely the passage of time."

They might look more like a new, freaky kind of mushrooms in the Mario-world. But actually it is a fusion of swedish aesthetics and vietnamese handicraft!

Swedish design studio Glimpt has collaborated with graphic designer Malin Koort to create the aesthetics of these small stools made with a traditional technique from Vietnam. They use colourful paper and twist it around dried rolls of seagrass originally used to make bowls.

So anyways, I think you get some extra lives by phurchasing these!

What she does is referring to our daily reality through the use of natural materials like feathers and detailed craftmanship. LOVE this guy. As a quite young artist Davis Rhodes is not very known yet, but I love his style and the materials he uses. The way he's making the rough cuts through the colourful vinyl is so organic, yet so graphic when watched from the front. The more "traditional" paintings I also find interesting; they are stapled to the wall, but leaning to the ground, forcing the viewer to physical engagement. He is also interesting for his way of working between painting, sculpture and installation and in a way all at the same time!

I love this designer; a creative dude from the UK, with a large focus on environmental issues without being so goddamn serious about it. His graduation project at Royal College of Art was how we can use the enormous amount of christmas trees that every year is shipped into London. It is simply called "The Christmas Tree Project". I also love the lamp concept he has going on, where the point is to strap together different modules with cable ties, where every module is holding a bulb in a random direction. Fun and simple. Gotta love it!

The B I G furniture fair in Milan is now happening; it's where the xlarge guys meet to discuss xlarge business, and where ALL the xsmall, small, medium, and large ones are trying to get visible and get the xls attention. It is not easy, but it usually it generates some really intresting also some really good design. This year I'm very disappointed though... There is not much design that is nicely thought and nicely done, and there are too many of those who try to make something smart, trendy or ironictrendy stuff. They all disappoint me, and way too many of them look overcomputerized... Not that it's anything wrong with computers, they are really a part of our contemporary time, and our design scene should be having this as a part of it. But the big mistake is that absolutely everything is drawn on computers, even what is supposed to look like they are "hand made". The ironic and humorous pieces look like toys, and with the risk of not mentioning the many Zaha Hadid-mimics.

As I was watching through all the designblogs on the internet, I discovered that what is most conducted this year is the easy, basic dining chairs. Yes, I know there is so many nice chairs to choose from in the world, and you ask yourself; do we really need more of them? I meen that the dining chair is really reflecting our time right now. It is the most rational genre of furniture, and it activates us humans; it is not a chair you relax much on. It is a social chair, and it is a working chair. And the chairs I have chosen reflects a time where the plastic chair must go and where more sustainable thoughts must come forward. So here it goes, my favourite chairs of the week:

1. Future Traditions bu Zhang Lei, Christoph John and Jovana Bogdanovic. This chair is made of layers of paper! The designers has adopted the traditional technique from the soon extingt making of chinese paper umbrellas. The paper is glued in layers until it is strong enough to sit on and the rough edges is a nice contrast to the rest of the form! Nice!

2. Osso by the Bouroullec brothers for Mattiazzi. Okey, this is the first of two from the B-brothers. I am of course a great fan of them, but I can't help it, it is because they are for me undoubtly two of the most steady designers the last years. The Osso chair is beautifully shaped both as a complete design and in the details. The fact it concists of only 8 pieces is amazing!

3. Baguette Chair by the Bouroullec brothers for Magis. I L O V E this chair! It is so uniqly thought with a genius construction, and such a minimum use of materials. It's a classic!

4. Rememberme by Tobias Juretzek for Casamania. This chair project is made entirely out of used garments like jeans, t-shirts, shirts etc. It was released last year, but this year the italian furniture producer Casamania har actually taken it into production and presented it on the Salon Satellite! Art AND mass production at once! They are beautiful!

5. Lightwood Chair by Jasper Morrison for Maruni Wood Industry. Jasper Morrison has control of his minimalistic skills, and noone can create so beautiful design out of such a simple construction and blending both tradition, modern and multicultural aesthetics. With both webbed, cushioned and a woven mesh fabric as alternatives. YUM!

6. Clip Chair by Sebiastian Herkner for De Vorm. The last one in the bunch is cute little fella produced by the Netherlands based furniture company De Vorm. The design is as sustainable as can be, and the chair is produced by wasting only a minimum of material in the production process! I also like the very nice construction detail in plastic that gives the chair something human and cute.

THE PERFECT PAPER

As you might know, I work in a fashion company called Acne. It's a fashion house from Sweden that is growing really fast. They get their attention here and there (mention: an own page in American Vogue), and finally for AW11, they did their first official fashion week-shows in Paris. But one of the things that fascinates me most is that Acne never makes any sort of commercials or advertising.. They only make clothes! That is obviously quite unique nowadays. Now, I am not going to make this a big advertisement for them.. I want to talk about a part of Acne which is not the clothes, but the magazine Acne Paper.

Acne Paper is a collaboration between Acne Studios (fashion), Acne Film, Acne Digital and Acne Advertising (Yes, they work with advertising, but not for them self..!) and is published twice a year. Because of the collaboration it is not at all about the clothes they make, all though they has a focus on fashion, it's rather about what inspires Acne as the one large creative group that they are, and most of all the chairman Jonny Johansson. It is mostly based on interviews with people from all over the world. From Acne Paper.com:

"Each issue of Acne Paper is created around one key idea – a timeless theme that in various ways touches all those working in the creative fields regardless of age, cultural background or social status. In an eclectic yet coherent mix of portrait, fashion and art photography as well as interviews, memoirs and prose he editorial narrative aims to unite artistic minds of all generations. The latest issue is about studios, and how they influence the artist, writer, designer or musician working there. Past and present types of studios within all kinds of fields; fashion, art, music, writing, you name it. It is really worth taking a look!

Anish Kapoor is using the colour red and especially red wax as a big part of his art. It fascinates me; the stickiness and roughness of the material contrasting with the very delicate and geometrical ways they are shaped and transformed into beautiful objects, the references to flesh and blood is very obvious. The connection made between the material and surrounding architecture is amazing in Svayambh, an installation where a large red block of wax slowly was pushed through the rooms and the openings between them, leaving traces. I get thoughts of slaughterhouses where meat is transported through the halls. Our unthoughtful relationship to meat is clear; the proportions between the amount of animal flesh that has to be used to create a block big as the one in the installation and ourself as quite "small" human beings is quite provocative.

I see that I am a quite private citizen here in cyberspace, not much from my daily life reaches the outer spheres of this endless universe. An obvious trend now is to blog about your depressions and share your inner darkness and anxiety that (of course) almost everybody has got, as some sort of a reaction to all the terrible, ugly "Rosa-bloggers" that has been for a long long while..

Now anyway. I am not going to talk about make-up, perfume or clothing, that's for sure. No, it's something extraordinary. It's something breathtaking. It's something that have revolutionized my life, and lights up my life to keep the blogger-depressions far far away:

SWEDEN LOVES NORWAY

Yes, there is always some kind of tricky relationship between two neighbour countries. In this case the swedes are about 1000 horseheads ahead of us norwegians in terms of fashion design.. We apreciate swedish fashion a lot; brands like Acne, Filippa K, H&M, Tiger, Weekday, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair +++ is well based brands in Norway, and I even work for one of them! At the same time it is so goddamn hard for us to make it at all; outside as well as in our own country. So it is pretty rare to see a swedish initiative to celebrate norwegian design arranged in Stockholm by the renowed swedish trend expert Stefan Nilsson. Is it finally about to loosen up..?

My friends Camilla Bruerberg and Marie Rydland is exhibiting alongside with Kristoffer Kongshaug and the swedish-norwegian stylist Josefin Johansson. It opened yesterday and the is staying for a month! I admire all their work. If you're in Stockholm, GO THERE!!

Talking about Iceland... The Icelandic artist Shoplifter (Hrafnhildur Arnardottir) is a really remarkable artist mainly working with hair, fur and other natural and synthetic fibers as material in sculptures, clothing and "wall pieces". In 2004 she created Björks famous hairsculpture for the cover shoot of Medúlla, one of my dearest and most favourite albums, as well as all the pictures inside the cover itself and the costumes for the whole tour. The crazy, energic, timeless and well crafted pieces is something that can always inspire me.

My brother is studying photography, and he told me about this amazing dude that he had seen in Berlin. Philip-Lorca diCorcia is an american photographer born in 1951. I'm amazed by his theatrical style and how he plays with light and darkness to create very interesting compositions. There is something baroque over the style, but at the same time the contents are very modern. This image is from the spread Cuba Libre in W Magazine March 2000, and I just love it!

The Danes has not quite been present at the design scene the last years, so it is lovely to see the two girls Anita Johansen and Anne Ahrendt Futtrup designing this playful and quite advanced piece of furniture. As you understand, you can twist the long, upper piece in new directions which reveals hitten rooms for storing. And when it is all closed together, you see a beautiful geometrical motif at the surface.

Damien Hirst and a collection of other artists has been invited to transform and tailor products into psychedelic symbols of art for auctioning to support the London Institute of Contemporary Arts' Psychedelica Gala this weekend! The Gala has an interesting programme of musicians, performers and artists like The Time and Space Machine, boyleANDshaw, Jonny Woo, Carley Hague and The House Of Egypt, Centre of the Universe and Nigel and Louise from London’s SHUNT collective. WIRELESS VISUALIZED

A norwegian trio of designers from AHO has made a film where they have visualized wifi-signals by making a 4 m long stick with lights and a wifi reciever, and then taking pictures with long shutterspeed. It is beautiful to see how consistant and evenly the signals act in the urban landscape. And I was slightly surprised how the signals not are evenly high, but they rather vary from very high to very low, and they are also following the landscape and change strength by f.ex. a road. Really fascinating! Watch it all!

I usually don't buy magazines. Or.... the fact is that I am originally sickly and badly addicted to buying magazines and books. I l•o•v•e goodlooking books with a nice, interesting and enlightening content, but they weigh wayyy too much, they are expensive as well as I think about the forests and the trees... and all that stuff... or so to say: I force myself into thinking these things.. But today I was tricked into Narvesen. I just have to say that they are impressivly good at taking in good magazines from all over the world, and small domestic ones as well. I browsed through many of them, killing som time. I have raised my standards really hight lately to buy less, so it is really rare that I find something I like. But this time I did find one mag. It's called Kaleidoscope, and it is about art-stuff. I found it, and I BOUGHT IT!!! HELL YEAH! And it is VERY good and interesting!! I am a happy comradee.

I was recommended this movie the other day, by Kenya. She said to me that this is the movie where you finally will deeply fall in love with Tilda Swinton. (all though I already thought I were..)

The movie tells the story of Orlando, based on a book by Virginia Woolf (wich I am going to read very soon!), who lives across centuries, changes sex, and does not age a day. Starting in the 15th century and working its way all the way to our present time, we see this man, and womans experiences in many aspects of life, thereby love, poetry, sex, politics, society etc. The movie is visually a gourmet-meal, and I ate it all hungerly.

In April of 2009, Josefine Lyche met Henrik Pask in Philadelphia, PA while attending Bob Eure’s CIREAP group. At the time Ms.Lyche was scheduled to be a speaker on her Alien Abduction research. Preston Nichols also presented his material that evening. Preston brought Mr.Pask with him this evening as a surprise guest to share some of his “Montauk Boy” experiences. After Lyche first lectured, Pask walked up to her to tell her that he had been in underground bases, and recalled a memory of walking down a hallway in some underground facility, seeing women and children in chickenwire cages, screaming for help.

I found a site whith a bunch of old photographs the other day! The site is a blog called Old Picture of the Day, and that's what it is! These are my favourites:

Every photo has a story to it as well and often depicts a historic moment. The upper one is four nurses testing gasmasks before or under the 1st world war. The second picture is of the Statue of Liberty being assembled, amazing! The third is a photo of a upper class little boy at the end of the 18th century all dressed up in a roman armour; the way we look at children has changed a lot since then. And at the bottom we see Dali in the famous photograph that noone can understand how was taken. Heftigt.

On my inpiration-blog BAD . 01, I have a little project going on; a new series of posts, and the theme is space. Not space as in "outer space", but as in spaces as definition on "in between" and "over/under" and inspiring interiors. As it is what I do, I needed to sort of categorize what I wanted to post, and I am trying to (quietly, secretly) write an mastersdegree-application. Which is sort of difficult, and I need to get my thougts to that, and not just everything else. Or, of course, everything else is very good, but some times you need to concretize (!?) and get to the core...

These carpets are woven from discarded ropes of sisal, by an artist being completely without any traditional weaving skills. Abakanowicz says that this is one of the reason why she actually made it; she saw her limitations as possibilities, and her ability to transform the material and her selflearned technique into pure art.

Georges Rousse is a photographer born in Paris in 1947. He is well known for his photographs of often abandoned places and spaces where he has superimposed precise geometrical shapes or squiggly graffiti. He is one of the very first artist experimenting with this technique, and he does it superbly. This is some of his latest works.

Really inspiring for someone working with both space and photography, and how to incorporate both into a new expression. I like the thought of a relation between the space, the two-dimensional photograph and a potensial object in one single picture.

Established and Sons stands for so much good design thinking these days, and this initiative is really a great one! I am often really fascinated by fashion, but that is usually womens wear! They are so creative and so forward thinking with the womens collections, and the mens are always just suits. But here is a different guyDamir Doma is apparently the rising star of fashion. But he is mainly doing menswear. And I love it. It is so wearable, but so unique, stylish, and it tells me a story, and I want to live that story! And it is really rear that I am nailed to the screen and dead curious on what will be the nex outfit.
